What is a "Lunchbox Portable" ?
A "Lunchbox Portable PC" is a specialized
mobile PC that is a hybrid between a notebook computer and a desktop. It
gives you the power and expandability of a desktop or server - while being
portable. It typically
consists of a rugged ABS or Metal chassis with an LCD panel, and a detachable keyboard
that snaps on to the front of the panel. The chassis resembles a "lunchbox" -
hence the name.
The "lunchbox chassis" offers plenty of
expansion room and can pack a lot of power into a small space. So we can offer a
Dual Xeon, Pentium 4 GHz or
Dual Pentium III 1.2 GHz system with 4096 MB of RAM, 160 GB ATA/133 IDE Hard Drive and a
181.1 GB SCSI Ultra160 hard drive. So it is expandable, upgradable, flexible and yes - portable
(or luggable - if you prefer) ! Please note that it is not a replacement for a typical notebook PC.
Is a lunchbox portable the solution
for me ?
Are you looking for a portable computer that is
powerful, expandable, rugged and reliable? Do you have a portable or mobile application
that requires the use of custom interface cards and peripherals? Or do you need the
ultimate portable power for a field application? Maybe one that requires dual Athlon MP 2100+ or Dual Pentium-4 XEON 2.0 GHz
processors with 4 GB RAM and a 181.1 Gigabyte SCSI hard-drive running
Windows 2000 Advanced Server? Well a notebook will not cut it !
If so, the DPS-9000 series lunchbox style portable computers from dynaPro may just be the
solution you are looking for. Even the latest and greatest notebook computer on the market
will not meet the above requirements. The DPS lunchbox style portables truly offer
portable computing without compromising - the power, convenience, flexibility and
expandability of a desktop computer in a portable format. They are available with the
latest and fastest processors, hard drives, and system boards, as well your choice of
peripheral expansion cards. The DPS Lunchbox portables accept up to 7 or 8 ISA or PCI
cards and industry standard peripherals. They can be upgraded and expanded at any time.
Their rugged design and industry standard architecture make them the perfect desktop
replacement for all your mobile computing needs.
The Benefits of a DPS-9000 Lunchbox
Portable:
The DPS Lunchbox portables offer the following benefits:
- Power & speed: A
portable can have dual Xeon processors at 2.4 GHz each, Dual
Athlon MP or Single AMD Athlon/Intel
Pentium-4 Processor up to 3.06 GHz.
- Storage: Lunchbox
Portables can contain more than one hard drive, removable hard drive, a CDR Writer, a DVD
ROM/RAM drive, a tape-drive and or an optical drive. Systems can contain hard drives as
large as 181.1 Gigabytes and RAID Drives !
- Peripheral Expansion Slots:
Our lunchbox portables can take standard expansion cards and have up to 8 slots available!
- Flexibility: If you
have a special card for Data Acquisition, MIDI, PLC, Video Capture, etc., you can use them
in the portable - but not in a notebook computer.
- Reliability & Ruggedness:
The lunchbox portable chassis is mounted in a metal-enclosure that is then enclosed in
rugged ABS plastic.
- Upgradable: Portables
can be upgraded anytime with industry standard parts. Replace the video card with the next
generation card, or change the CPU when your needs change. A notebook computer cannot be
upgraded this easily.
